Rangers starlet Kai Kennedy has been called up by Scotland Under 19s amid reported transfer interest from Sheffield United.

The Daily Record recently reported that the 18-year-old would be allowed to leave Ibrox before the end of the transfer window, with the Blades one of several teams keen on his signature.

Rangers are said to be looking for a substantial fee for the player, who has one year remaining on his current deal.

Kennedy made his first-team debut in January when he appeared as a substitute in a Scottish Cup clash against Stranraer at Ibrox.

He was a standout performer at Colts level throughout last season, while he shone for the U20s against a high-quality Atletico Madrid side in the UEFA Youth League in February.

However, Steven Gerrard appeared to shoot a thinly-veiled warning at the young winger in August amid rumours that contract discussions had broken down.

The manager made it clear that there would be no place in his squad for players who were not committed to the club and Kennedy hasn’t made a matchday squad or been seen in training since.

Yet, his lack of involvement at Ibrox hasn’t prevented him from receiving an international call-up.

On Wednesday, Billy Stark named Kennedy in his Scotland U19s squad for two youth international friendlies against England which will take place on 8 and 11 October at St Georges Park.

With time still remaining in the transfer window, it will be interesting to see whether or not the teenager is still a Rangers player by the time those fixtures come about.

Kennedy’s teammate, Ciaran Dickson, who was also a regular in the Rangers U20s last season, has also made Stark’s squad.
