Rangers star Borna Barisic might’ve had a disappointing Euro 2020 with Croatia, but alongside a Celtic rival he’s back staking his claim for a starting berth in the Balkans.
There are not many better on that left-hand side than the marauding Rangers full-back when things are going right for Borna, but injuries and confidence have been issues in the past.
However, after putting in the corner to be met by Filip Helander in the Old Firm derby win just before the break, even Gary McAllister made note of this being the player’s true “level”.
An emotional Borna vacated the Ibrox pitch that afternoon to head off with his country and the player was back in the starting line-up for a World Cup Qualifier against Slovenia.
The Croatians would run out comfortable 3-0 winners in Split courtesy of strikes from Marko Livaja, Mario Pasalic, and Nikola Vlasic.

More pertinently for Rangers however, Borna Barisic put in a solid showing at left-back as he aims to rescue his place in the starting XI back from Borna Sosa.
The VfB Stuttgart left-back, 23, has started the last two World Cup Qualification matches as Croatia earned a goalless draw in Russia and a 1-0 win in Slovakia.
Alongside Borna in the line-up was new £2.5m Celtic signing Josip Juranovic, who started on the opposite flank.
Juranovic, 26, was given a baptism of fire against Rangers but big things are expected of the full-back, who has played every minute for Croatia during the international break.
Barisic will be hoping his showing v Slovenia has done enough to convince Zlatko Dalic to make him the first choice at left-back, but for Rangers fans, they’ll just be happy to see Borna back in form.
Meanwhile, a “special” Rangers talent has shown exactly why he was earning praise from a top La Liga talent earlier in the week.
