Rangers defender John Souttar could yet make the Scotland squad for their upcoming clash with Norway; and face Man City icon Erling Haaland in the process.
Alarm bells were ringing amid news that the 26-year-old centre-back had picked up yet another injury in a career besieged by them as the national side prepare to continue their Euro qualification campaign.
But news this week eased fears that the injury problem was a serious one, with John Souttar now genuinely in with a shout of playing against either Haaland’s side in Oslo on Saturday or against Georgia at Hampden on Tuesday.
Scotland of course currently top European Championship qualifying Group A after winning their opening two matches against Cyprus (H) and Spain (H).
John Souttar handed Scotland Erling Haaland boost
Rangers centre-back John Souttar would have his hands full if he is primed to take on Erling Haaland and Norway at the heart of the Scotland defence.
The Man City striker, 22, has been a force to be reckoned with this season and has been the missing link in Pep Guardiola’s remarkable Etihad side.
The former Dortmund striker has netted a quite incredible 52 goals in 53 games this season, adding nine assists into the mix for good measure.
Erling Haaland’s record for Norway is also incredible, the striker scoring 21 goals in 23 caps for his country, a stat made even more impressive by the nation’s lower standing on the European stage.
Having lost their Euro qualification opener v Spain (A) and having drew with Georgia (A), this will be Norway and Erling Haaland’s first home game of the qualifiers.
Rangers star John Souttar had begun to prove himself a capable option for the Ibrox side before the season ended, but what a shame if he’d miss the Scotland experience of taming Erling Haaland through yet another injury.
