Rangers fans delighted at “purely selfish” Old Firm Celtic Park boost

If you want to know just how much it means to Rangers fans that Joe Aribo will be back at Ibrox in time for a trip to Celtic Park, you need only look at the reaction on Twitter.

There were fears that fan favourite Joe, 25, could miss the Old Firm trip across the city amid good form for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

But after the Super Eagles suffered a major shock in the Cameroon-based competition by crashing out 1-0 to Tunisia, Joe Aribo is set to return ahead of Rangers’ trip to Celtic Park.

Considered the Ibrox side’s frontrunner for Player of the Year, there is no doubting the attacking midfielder is now a very influential player for the Gers.

Rangers fans react as Joe Aribo, Nigeria knocked out of AFCON ahead of Celtic clash

Whilst Rangers fans obviously wanted the midfielder to do well at AFCON, stopping short of schadenfreude supporters are certainly delighted to see Joe Aribo returning early ahead of the Celtic game.

Linked with the likes of Premier League Southampton, Rangers will be hoping to both keep Aribo beyond the January window and potentially tie him down on a new deal.

But in the short-term, Rangers fans are just delighted to see their number 17 return to Ibrox just in time for facing off against Old Firm rivals Celtic:

Joe Aribo has played 32 times for Rangers this season, netting six goals and laying on five assists, with the Nigeria international now in contention to return to the squad.

One player who won’t be taking part in that game is form Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, who has been recalled to the Colombia squad for World Cup qualifiers with Peru and Argentina.

But the Gers have also been boosted by the news that Joe Aribo won’t be the only first-teamer now available for the Celtic clash, provided he can stay injury free.
