A report in the Daily Mail, has suggested that Steven Gerrard is on a shortlist to become a future England manager.
Gareth Southgate has been in the hot seat since 2016 and has earned rave reviews for transforming the fortunes of the side.
They came within a whisker of qualifying for the World Cup final, last summer.
A scenario many would have laughed off before the tournament began.

However, it appears that some steps are already being taken to identify his successor, for when he decides to call it a day.
The report suggests that there are four names in particular under consideration by new FA Technical Director, Les Reed.
Eddie Howe, Sean Dyche, Frank Lampard and Stevie G.

Those first two managers are much more experienced that the Gers boss.
Howe has guided Bournemouth up through the football league since taking over in 2012, while Dyche took the reigns at Burnley in the same year.

Lampard, like his former England teammate, is only making his first forays into senior management. Yet, both former midfielders are said to be ‘on the radar’ of the FA.
He took over at Derby County in 2018 and they currently sit eighth in the Championship.

There’s clearly no need to panic for Rangers fans right now.
After all, Southgate is due to stay with England until at least 2022. Following that though, who knows?
If he proves himself at Ibrox, Gerrard could just land one of the top jobs in international football.
