Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun played for Nigeria in a solid 2-0 victory over Liberia in their recent World Cup qualifying match.

The Gers due have arguably been the team’s most impressive performers this season, and they both played for 90 minutes in the tie against Liberia.

The game was decided by two penalties, one after 15 minutes and the other right at the death. With Liberia languishing down at 150th place on the FIFA world rankings, it was perhaps a disappointment that Nigeria couldn’t finish the tie in a more established manner.

The Super Eagles head into the last game knowing a win or draw against Cape Verde will see them through to the next stage of the qualifiers.

Both Aribo and Balogun will be desperate to help Nigeria qualify for the World Cup. This could be the first of many for Joe Aribo, whereas for Balogun it’s likely to be his last chance saloon to feature at the competition.

Aribo has developed a wonderful consistency this season with Rangers. His previous two campaigns had seen a great performance followed by a few poor ones. The Ibrox side has a rough diamond on their hands with Aribo.

With the recent news regarding the £23.5 operating losses, we may need to sell one or two players before considering any future transfer outlays.

With the way he has been performing this season, Aribo could well command a hefty fee.

Meanwhile, Rangers have held ‘positive talks with Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
