Steven Gerrard appears to have received a major injury boost ahead of Sunday’s clash with Celtic.

On Tuesday evening, the club’s official Twitter account shared RangersTV footage of the first team squad’s latest training session.

Scott Arfield’s fitness had been a major concern ahead of the weekend.

The midfielder missed Rangers’ last game against Kilmarnock and withdrew from international duty with Canada, because of a lingering calf problem.

However, in the opening seconds of the video, he is seen heading out to the training pitch alongside Matt Polster.

Fit Arfield would be a big boost

It was a surprise to spot the 30-year-old. After all, the international fixture he pulled out of, against French Guiana, only took place on Sunday.

Nevertheless, it was a will be a welcome sight for Rangers fans.

The ex-Burnley star hasn’t quite been himself recently, perhaps hampered by this persistent niggle.

However, at his best, he’s a real asset for the side.

Arfield was a standout performer in December’s Old Firm victory, dominating Scott Brown in midfield.

If he is available from the start on Sunday and can find those levels once more, the Gers have a real chance at Celtic Park.
