Rangers receive big injury boost ahead of Slavia clash but two key players ruled out

Rangers have received a major injury boost ahead of their Europa League Last 16 first-leg clash with Slavia Prague but two key players have been ruled out [Rangers FC Twitter].

Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday morning, Steven Gerrard confirmed that forward Kemar Roofe is back in contention following a muscle problem.

However, neither Ryan Jack nor James Tavernier are available.

WAYNE ROONEY TO EVERTON IS A JOKE.

Jack is expected to feature in the second leg, but in a big blow for the Gers, Tavernier will miss the tie altogether.

“Roofe will train this morning and will be available,” said Gerrard [Rangers FC Twitter]. “Jack could be ready but I have decided to hold back and he will be available for the second-leg, I don’t want to push him too quick.”

“Tavernier will be a little bit slower to return.”

Roofe is Rangers’ third-top goalscorer this season with 12 and his return to fitness ensures the manager has plenty of options in the final third, with Alfredo Morelos, Cedric Itten, Ianis Hagi and Ryan Kent all also available.

Jack’s absence is a blow but in Scott Arfield, Glen Kamara and Steven Davis, the manager still has a strong midfield trio to call upon.

Right-back is perhaps where the Gers are most vulnerable.

Nathan Patterson made a brilliant impact off the bench in the Round of 32 second-leg clash against Royal Antwerp at Ibrox but Slavia represent a step up in quality and the inexperienced 19-year-old will be tested defensively over the two legs if he’s preferred to Leon Balogun.

Progressing to the quarter-finals would trigger a substantial UEFA cash reward for the Gers
