Ahead of Friday’s Scottish Cup Fourth Round tie against Stirling Albion, Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst has provided an injury update [Rangers.co.uk].
Speaking during a press conference on Thursday afternoon, the Dutchman offered news on Kemar Roofe, Leon Balogun, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and Steven Davis.
All five players have been injured and none of them featured in Tuesday’s draw with Aberdeen, although Balogun did make the bench.
“Kemar will be involved tomorrow as will Leon Balogun,” began GvB [Rangers.co.uk]. “For Ryan, it’s too early.”
“Arfield trained a little bit with the team today, so hopefully he will join us at the beginning of next week and Steve Davis hopefully some time next week as well.”
Van Bronckhorst delivers mixed Rangers injury update
Rangers were very understrength for their first assignment of 2022 at Pittodrie and they will soon also lose Alfredo Morelos to Colombia duty.
It’s a blow that none of Arfield, Davis or Jack are yet ready to return, as because they all play in midfield, GvB is a little short on options there.
However, he should have more than enough resources to get past The Binos in the cup and it’s great news that both Balogun and Roofe are fit.
Balogun could well be handed a start after watching on from the bench in the Granite City earlier this week and if he does play, it’ll be his first appearance since the League Cup semi-final defeat to Hibernian in November.
Meanwhile, Roofe is more likely to receive half an hour off the bench than to start the game, but given that the ex-Leeds striker is averaging a goal every 108 minutes so far this season (10), the manager will be delighted to have him back in the mix.
The 29-year-old has 10 club goals for the season and 28 in 56 appearances since joining from Anderlecht in August 2020.
