Rangers have been dealt a major blow ahead of their League Cup quarter-final against St Mirren on Wednesday night, with Ryan Jack ruled out through injury [Official Rangers FC Twitter].
Jack hasn’t played since picking up a muscle problem in the 4-0 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox in November.

It had looked as though the 28-year-old would return to the matchday squad at Dundee United on Sunday, but he failed to make the bench and Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he won’t return in Paisley, either.
“Still no Ryan Jack, he is moving along but not ready,” he said [Official Rangers FC Twitter]. “Everyone else is available except Katic.”
Then, in response to a follow-up question, the manager provided further details on Jack’s condition.
“Ryan Jack hasn’t suffered a setback, it won’t be too long before he returns but it is important not to rush him.”
It’s a blow for Gerrard to be without such a key player for what is an extremely important fixture.

Ahead of a fourth away game in quick succession, it would have been a big boost to bring back a player of Jack’s ilk to freshen things up in the middle of the park.
Yet, it’s clear that the Scotland international isn’t up to speed just yet and he’ll now be targeting Saturday’s Premiership fixture against Motherwell at Ibrox.
