Rangers have been dealt a major double blow ahead of their League Cup tie against Falkirk on Sunday, with Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo both out of contention [Official Rangers FC Twitter].
When Gary McAllister gave a squad update during a press conference on Friday afternoon, he ruled Jack out of the game but was initially optimistic about Aribo’s chances of featuring.
“Joe Aribo has had a little bit of sickness but he’s better today and we’re hopeful that he’ll come back into training tomorrow,” said the assistant manager [RangersTV].
“Jacko’s still got a little nagging sort of tissue problem, so he won’t be around for the weekend.”
However, it’s since been confirmed that Aribo won’t be involved either, as he is set to continue to receive treatment for a ‘minor illness’ over the coming days.
🗒️ PLAYER UPDATE: Rangers can confirm that Joe Aribo is currently being treated for a minor illness and is being monitored accordingly over the weekend.

It’s a blow that both midfielders have been ruled out of the game, given their importance to the side.
However, Steven Gerrard has a big group of players at his disposal and even if youngsters like Jamie Barjonas and Ciaran Dickson have to be brought into the matchday squad to provide cover, Rangers should still have more than enough to get past their third-tier opponents.
Falkirk have started the season well and shouldn’t be underestimated, but the Gers are on a 22-match unbeaten run with a host of players in excellent form.
Supporters will be hoping that both Jack and Aribo will be able to return to the fold ahead of next week’s Europa League fixture against Standard Liege, where a win would be enough to secure progression to the knockout stages.
