Rangers and Croatia have received major boosts after key man Borna Barisic received positive scan results on a back injury.

Barisic picked up the problem near the end of the 2020/21 season, causing him to miss the Gers’ final two matches against Livingston and Aberdeen.

He returned to action in Croatia’s Euro 2020 warm-up fixtures but was criticised for his first-half display in a defeat to Belgium before being hooked at the interval.

The 28-year-old missed out on Zlatko Dalic’s squad for their Group D opener against England on Sunday and the manager then informed the press that the full-back was going for a scan to get a clearer idea of the extent of his injury.

At that point, Rangers fans were concerned.

The prospect of Barisic missing out totally on a tournament he’d worked so hard to get to looked very real, while if a serious issue was unearthed, he would automatically become a doubt for the Gers’ crucial upcoming Champions League qualifiers.

Fortunately for all concerned, though, the scans showed nothing sinister and the marauding left-back is set to resume full training later this week [HNS Twitter].

Croatia face the Czech Republic on Friday at Hampden Park and although that game may come too soon for the Rangers star, he could feature against Scotland at the same venue next Tuesday.

Steven Gerrard would be delighted if his player managed both to sample a major tournament and return to Auchenhowie in one piece.

In other news, Rangers have reportedly made a move for a ‘dangerous’ Euro club winger who’s said to want a UK transfer.
