Steven Gerrard delivered an injury blow this afternoon, as captured by RangersTV.
He all but confirmed that Jamie Murphy will not play again before the end of the season.

The Gers winger picked up a serious knee injury away at Kilmarnock in mid-August and hasn’t featured since.
“Jamie Murphy, I doubt it,” said Gerrard as captured by RangersTV, when asked whether or not he had a chance of returning over the last four matches.

“I think Jamie’s got a chance of training with the squad before the end of the season. But, with the last game being on astroturf, I wouldn’t think it makes sense to push to show Jamie for one game before the end of the season.”
“If that game was on grass, there probably would be a better chance.”

Verdict

This is disappointing news, as it had been thought for some time that Murphy would return this campaign.

However, it seems as though sense is prevailing here.
For the player, I’m sure there’s a temptation to get back out there as soon as possible.

Yet, the risk involved in rushing back from a knee injury greatly outweighs the benefit of getting half an hour across the last couple of matches.
After all, Murphy has missed over eight months of football. While it may be disappointing for him and the supporters, he’ll undoubtedly be better off with a full pre-season under his belt before he makes his long-awaited return.
