Rangers strike duo Alfredo Morelos and Fashion Sakala are walking a Europa League suspension tightrope ahead of the club’s clash with Lyon in France.

Whilst the outcome of the group has already been more or less decided – Brondby can still finish third and earn a UEFA Conference League place over Sparta – the match is still an opportunity for the Gers to test themselves.

The Ibrox side will also be looking to show their progress since the 2-0 Ibrox defeat against the Ligue 1 side with players on the fringes of the squad surely set to be handed an opportunity.

Rangers will be grateful that this match – at least in terms of their own progression to the knockout round – won’t impact the club’s Europa League status.

But there is still plenty to play for financially and Giovanni van Bronckhorst has a decision to make regarding both Alfredo Morelos and Fashion Sakala.

The Dutchman has already hinted that he will change things up for the clash in France.

With one eye on the next round of the competition, should either player pick up a nonsense booking they will miss the first leg of a clash against a Champions League dropout.

That draw is likely to throw up a challenging clash for Rangers and both Alfredo Morelos and Fashion Sakala are important players who’re likely to play in the match.

Given the game is also a dead rubber for Lyon, the French side may well rest players amid stuttering Ligue 1 form.

Players are given a one match suspension in the Europa League for picking up three bookings in the Group Stages.

Alfredo Morelos picked up a booking in the first match of the groups against Lyon at Ibrox with Fashion Sakala picking up a booking in Rangers’ defeat to Sparta Prague.

Both players were then yellow carded in the 1-1 draw with Brondby in Denmark.

Kemar Roofe will be chomping at the bit for an opportunity and as a result of the so-called suspension tightrope, Rangers’ top scorer could be in line for a start in France.

Contrary to some reports, Jermain Defoe is not available for selection as he is not registered for European competition.

Rangers fans have been boosted by the news supporters will be allowed in Lyon with a leading sports travel company providing an update to fans.
