Rangers are set to take 7000 fans to RB Leipzig for the club’s Europa League semi-final – with German allies HSV also set to take 500 supporters across Germany.

The Gers’ travelling support is legendary and supporters have once again dug deep to pay for yet another Euro trip as their team stands on the verge of history.

RB Leipzig will be the toughest test yet of Rangers’ recent four-year run in Europe and the club will have to overcome injury problems aplenty to put Red Bull to the sword.

But Rangers will have the backing of thousands of fans as German newspaper Bild reports that a “Scottish invasion” into Germany and specifically Leipzig is imminent.

7000-strong Rangers support handed HSV RB Leipzig boost

According to their information, 7000 Rangers fans are set to descend on Germany from all over the world despite the fact Gers fans officially only have 2400 tickets for the match.

This is 1000 less than the 8000 Euro-starved Rangers fans who made the trip to Germany in January 2017 to see their side beaten 4-0 by Leipzig in a winter friendly.

It’s the German newspaper too who have claimed that 500 HSV supporters are also planning on joining the Rangers support as they help with planning and preparations ahead of the game.

A friendship 35 years in the making and originating in Glaswegian dock workers moving to the Hanseatic city in the 70s, the relationship is now recognised as an official club partnership.

As part of this, Rangers’ Euro allies are joining forces with the Gers on the continent and it speaks volumes that they’ll be cheering against a German club this week.

German football view RB Leipzig as something of an enemy force given their commercial status and mass investment from energy drinks giant Red Bull.

It has plenty cheering against the Bundesliga outfit as they vie for a first ever European final and the HSV support appear to be leaning towards Rangers in their hunt for Europa League glory.

Meanwhile, the Bundesliga club have been affording the Ibrox side plenty of respect heading into the clash.
