Rangers are in action on Thursday evening in a huge Europa League clash against Feyenoord in Rotterdam.
Heading into the game, much of Steven Gerrard’s team picks itself.
Yet, question marks are still lingering over the attacking right position which no player has managed to nail down as yet.
There are four real candidates to take up the berth in Scott Arfield, Sheyi Ojo, Greg Stewart and Brandon Barker.
Should Barker be given another big Rangers chance against Feyenoord?
Based on the 23-year-old’s meek display against Porto at Ibrox alone, it’d be hard to make a case for him.
The winger looked out of his depth in that encounter and struggled to cope with increasing pressure from the Ibrox faithful as the game progressed.
However, he showed in the Dragao stadium a few weeks prior to that, that he is capable of doing a job for the Gers in Europe.
In that away tie against Porto, he ran himself into the ground for the cause and crucially, along with Kent on the opposite flank, offered speed on the counter-attack.
If the Gers look to play a similar way in Rotterdam, it pretty much rules Arfield and Stewart out due to their lack of pace.
Tactics aside, Arfield has looked a shadow of his former self in recent times anyway, and Stewart has only featured for 25 minutes in the group stages so far, so this would seem an odd time to throw him in from the start.
Therefore, with Jordan Jones still not fully fit [Daily Record], Ojo could well be the only genuine competition.
His last real outstanding contribution in a Gers shirt came against this opposition way back in September, but with the exception of some good creative play at Ross County, he’s looked miles off the pace in recent times, including as a substitute against Hamilton on Sunday.
In sum, Barker is probably worth another go on Thursday night.
This is the one area of the field where the manager isn’t blessed with form players to choose from, and following a disappointing last European outing, the talented but raw ex-Manchester City youngster has a point to prove.
If included in the XI, let’s see if he can put in a Porto away type performance, rather than a repeat of his struggle against the same opposition at Ibrox.
