Injured Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter faces an uncertain future as both his loan deal at Fleetwood Town and his Ibrox contract enter their final months.

The 22-year-old has had wretched luck with injuries throughout his senior career and is currently in the midst of another spell on the sidelines.

The scouser joined up with Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town during the summer on a season-long loan deal, which had begun extremely promisingly.

By late November, he’d racked up 1537 minutes of action across 19 appearances in all competitions, establishing himself as a key part of the side.

However, disaster struck on the 23rd of that month, when he limped out of a 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers, after appearing to damage his knee.

Just a few days afterwards, Barton confirmed the problem was a serious one, suggesting that Rossiter could even miss the remainder of the season [Fleetwoodtownfc.com].

There’s been a lack of further updates since then, suggesting no miracle recovery is in progress and that there’s little hope of the ex-Liverpool Academy star featuring before the EFL League One campaign is out.

It leaves his future somewhat uncertain.

His loan deal is set to expire in the summer, as is his Rangers contract. Therefore, he’s likely to become a free agent in just a few months time.

Had he managed to stay fit at Fleetwood, his importance to the team suggested he may well have eventually been offered a permanent deal.

Yet, the Trawlermen aren’t likely to rush into negotiations with a crocked player, while after making just 16 appearances for Rangers since joining in 2016, he’s run out of chances at Ibrox.

Of course, even with the injury problems he’s faced, given his ability levels, he’s bound to find a new club.

It’s just a matter of what level that is at.
