Former Rangers manager rectifying poor form as Aston Villa continue impressive run

Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has rectified Aston Villas’s recent poor Premier League form as the 3-0 victory over Leeds Utd was their third win on the spin.

Goals from Philippe Coutinho, Matty Cash, and Callum Chambers secured a resounding victory which continues their recent fine form and moves Villa into the top half of the Premier League table.

Leeds suffered their sixth consecutive loss and are sliding towards a top-flight exit after a worrying previous few months.

Steven Gerrard has revitalised Aston Villa following Premier League victory over Leeds Utd

Gerrard moved to Villa in November last year in somewhat acrimonious circumstances, with many believing the former Liverpool captain would remain at the Gers until the job at his former club was available.

The lure of the Premier League riches was hard to resist, and he made a solid start at his new side, winning three of his opening four matches before a poor run saw the club slide down the table.

The honeymoon period was officially over, and many began to think he was out of his depth, however, January signing Coutinho has been impressive and their victory over Leeds proves that with solid recruitment and some investment, Villa could be a top-half side.

With tough fixtures against West Ham, Arsenal and Liverpool approaching, the onus is on Gerrard to continue this impressive win streak and have solid foundations to build on for next season.

A full summer transfer window may see the side reach the next level, although there has been plenty of talk regarding the Englishman’s interest in his former players, such as Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo.

Whatever happens, many of the Gers faithful will wish him luck and hope he can continue to improve. Although the manner of his Ibrox exit wasn’t in the best taste, there is no doubt he delivered the greatest title win in the club’s 150 years of existence.

In other news, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has hailed the impact of VAR in the sides Europa League win against Red Star Belgrade.
