Rangers loanee Jak Alnwick faces an uncertain future with the expiration of his Blackpool and Ibrox deals edging ever closer.

Similarly to Jordan Rossiter at Fleetwood Town, the 26-year-old has been out for a prolonged period through injury.

He sustained a broken arm during a Boxing Day league fixture and hasn’t been seen since, opting to remain in England for his rehab rather than returning to Glasgow.

The current near-total suspension of football across the globe has brought uncertainty for everyone involved in the game, but right now, Alnwick is likely unsure where he’ll be plying his trade next season.

With his three-and-a-half-year Ibrox contract coming to an end, it won’t be with Rangers. Given that he hasn’t represented the club since conceding five goals at Hibernian in May 2018, it’s near-certain he won’t be offered an extension.

Yet, by the same token, he may not be retained by Blackpool.

The English stopper’s loan deal there is set to expire at the end of the season, coinciding with the end of his Gers contract, meaning that as things stand, he’ll soon be a free agent.

It had been reported in December that the Seasider’s were primed to offer him a permanent contract [Blackpool Gazette].

However, the manager who had selected Alnwick for every fixture before he sustained his injury, Simon Grayson, has since been sacked.

Therefore, amid these unprecedented times, things are particularly uncertain for the Gers keeper.

Hopefully, given that it’s now over three months since he sustained his injury he’s now approaching full fitness, and if the season is extended into the summer, he could be granted opportunities to put himself into the shop window.
