English Championship side Watford are closing in on a deal for Korean international striker Cho Gue-sung, who was a reported January target for Rangers.

According to the Athletic, the Hornets are close to striking a deal for the 25-year-old Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors striker, who was also strongly linked with Celtic in January.

It’s set to be a busy summer at Vicarage Road too, with Cho Gue-Sung set to follow Toulouse forward Rhys Healey into the club and a deal for Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles also said to be close.

Rangers fans will take note of the apparent Watford interest in Korean World Cup star Cho Gue-Sung after the Ibrox side were linked with a £3m move in January.

Whilst there was always an air of the unrealistic when it came to the deal, the links have followed the striker for some time and now a move to the UK does seem likely.

Speaking recently, seemingly Watford-bound Cho Gue-Sung admitted that a transfer to Europe was in the pipeline amid reports it will cost £3m to sign the striker permanently.

However, it appears that until now, a move to Watford wasn’t close to being complete.

“The transfer window is not open yet,” said Cho Gue-Sung. “Of course I want a move to Europe this summer.

“I’m preparing for it. It’s undecided which team I would be joining, because I haven’t received a clear offer yet. I should prepare patiently, and good news will come.”

Now it appears that the good news has arrive for Cho Gue-Sung with a move to Watford and English football beckoning as the Valérien Ismaël looks to get the club back to the Premier League.

Whilst the Korean striker didn’t appear to be a Rangers target this summer, the Ibrox side have been linked to a range of forward targets in the media.

Amid the flurry of reports, talk of a £7m bid has just been rubbished by one group of leading Rangers fan media who’ve dismissed the latest links to Ibrox.
