One Rangers player has received recognition from the SPFL for his performance against Hearts.

Clearly, it was an excellent overall team display on Saturday.

The Gers may have conceded toward the end of the game, but other than that it was about as serene an away outing as you could wish for.

Within that though, there were several star performers. All three goalscorers obviously stand out. It could have been a lot different if Jermain Defoe hadn’t expertly opened the scoring early on.

The same can be said for Ryan Jack’s contribution. His composed finish gave the Gers the cushion you often need away from home.

Then, Nikola Katic reacted smartly to convert in the box and dealt well with the physical Uche Ikpeazu all afternoon.

Yet, none of those three were chosen in the SPFL Team of the Week.

Jon Flanagan was.

The left-back has shown a noticeable improvement in performance levels recently. He earned praise from his manager after the win at Motherwell and delivered another strong showing at the weekend.

Few would have expected him to get the nod ahead of all his teammates, though. Especially, as Steven MacLean’s goal ensured the Gers didn’t record a clean sheet.

Nonetheless, it’s always good to have a representative in this team. It’s usually an indication that things went well the previous weekend and it should provide him with a significant confidence boost.

He’s certainly doing the right things at the minute.
