Steven Gerrard roasts Rangers defender Helander for Hearts celebration

The big Swede has enjoyed a breakthrough last ten days or so in Light Blue.

Firstly, he put in a rock-solid display against Porto at the Dragao, keeping highly-rated striker Moussa Marega quiet on the night.

Then, at the weekend, his 81st-minute header secured all three points against Motherwell.

This time around, there was another big contribution at the top end of the pitch, as he opened the scoring in a Hampden semi-final. Not picked up by the Jambos defence, he found himself free in the middle of the box and confidently tucked away a finish having been picked out by Alfredo Morelos.

His manager was appreciative but still managed to poke fun in the process.

“It’s a great early cross and then Fil has made a lovely late run. I’m not sure about his celebration but it was a fantastic goal,” said Gerrard, as quoted by

“That topped his performance off as I thought he defended very cleverly today.”

Last weekend against Motherwell, he was stuck in a heap on the ground as his header went in, so he was mobbed by teammates before he got a chance to celebrate.

This time around though, Helander had the freedom of Hampden. He wheeled away toward the right corner of the ground, speeding past a gleeful Morelos and then committing to a knee slide.

It’s maybe not what you traditionally see from 6t 4″ centre-backs after they score.

Yet, the summer signing can certainly be forgiven for his exuberance. Having scored just once in three years at Bologna before his move to Glasgow, he’s simply not used to finding the net!
