Rangers are seeking a replacement for Michael Beale and Billy Davies is thought to be interested in the Ibrox hot seat.
The Gers parted ways with Beale on Sunday night having lost 3-1 to Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon.
The pressure and been mounting for weeks and few Rangers fans were surprised when the axe fell on Sunday.
A host of managers are already being linked with the Rangers job and one has been out of football for a long, long time…
Billy Davies wants Rangers job
The Daily Record (08:16) now report that Billy Davies wants to take charge of Rangers.
It’s stated that Davies already has real support from a number of ‘influential figures associated’ with Rangers.
Davies is also pitching the idea of landing an experienced coaching team full of people with strong Rangers connections.
Glasgow-born Davies spent time with Rangers in his playing days, making a handful of first-team appearances before heading off to Scandinavia.
Davies really made a name for himself as a manager at Preston North End having previously assisted Craig Brown at Deepdale.
The 59-year-old became something of a top-six expert in the English Championship, securing playoff spots with PNE, Derby County and Nottingham Forest.
Davies has been out of management for almost 10 years now though; he left Nottingham Forest in March 2014 and hasn’t landed another managerial job since.
Heading straight into the pressure-cooker situation at Rangers would be a bold step but Davies wants the chance to state his case at Ibrox.

Davies claimed Rangers move was blocked
Davies admitted in 2010 that managing Rangers was his dream, so it’s no surprise to read that he wants the job now.
The Scot has been in a strange position over the last few years though.
Davies told The Times in 2014 that a smear campaign blocked him from becoming Rangers boss.
It was claimed that a Rangers board member indicated that things written about Davies on forums ultimately kiboshed a move to Ibrox.
That was a long time ago now and Davies may feel that this is his last chance to manage Rangers – but whether the Gers would take a gamble on a manager who hasn’t been in the game for so long is another matter.
