Ronald Koeman, the former Barcelona manager, has emerged as a candidate for the current managerial role at Rangers [Football Insider].

The Dutchman, who was only relieved of his duties as Barcelona manager last month, has a wealth of experience managing teams on the continent and in the Premier League.

With Ross Wilson currently looking for a high-profile appointment to take over the reins, Koeman certainly fits the bill.

Would he be popular, however? personally, I don’t think he would be the correct appointment. His relationship with Ross Wilson stretches back to when the pair were at Southampton.

The Dutchman had a glittering playing career, winning numerous trophies with the Netherlands, Barcelona and PSV, his managerial career hasn’t been as successful, however.

Although winning league titles with both Ajax and PSV while he was in charge, his latest appointments have been poor.

He does have experience in England, managing Southampton and then a brief stint at Everton before managing the Netherlands.

His latest role at Barcelona ended recently with Koeman only able to win a single Copa del Rey in his 14-month spell with the Spanish side.

Over the next few days, there will be numerous rumours circulating with people putting themselves forward for the role.

From what I can gather, most Rangers fans would rather another Dutchman be appointed. One that’s passionate, knows the club well, and would be overwhelmingly popular amongst the fans.
