Rangers have now made a formal approach to land Brighton and Hove Albion head of recruitment Sam Jewell.

The last few days have been big for Rangers, having appointed a new manager in Philippe Clement on Sunday morning.

Clement was presented to the media on Tuesday with the Belgian now getting down to work at Ibrox.

Rangers are still plotting other moves though with a technical director now wanted to work above Clement in Glasgow.

Rangers make Sam Jewell move

The Sun reported just a few days ago that Rangers were eyeing up a move to land Brighton and Hove Albion head of recruitment Sam Jewell.

Fabrizio Romano now claims that Rangers have indeed made a ‘formal approach’ to land Jewell.

It’s stated that Rangers want to make Jewell the new technical director at Ibrox, which would be considerably more power than he currently has at Brighton.

Romano notes that Jewell is considering the Rangers offer but is ‘still not convinced’ about the move.

Jewell has a good thing going at Brighton and isn’t sure that leaving the club right now is the best decision.

Rangers will hope to convince Jewell into the move and surely won’t have made this approach without some kind of encouragement.

Jewell would arrive with David Weir backing

Rangers have been looking to replace Ross Wilson for a while now and Jewell could be the man.

The 34-year-old is the son of former Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell and has been carving out a strong reputation at Brighton.

Jewell works closely with David Weir at Brighton and the Rangers hero has previously offered up real praise.

Weir suggested earlier this year that Jewell had been playing an ‘important role’ in an ‘excellent’ Brighton recruitment.

“Sam totally understands our way of working and he has played an important part in helping to develop our strategy with the rest of our excellent recruitment team,” said Weir.

It’s no surprise that Rangers now fancy Jewell, although Heart & Hand note that the Gers are playing down the rumours, potentially trying to calm down the speculation whilst no deal is in place.
