Ex-Rangers striker Eduardo Herrera was spotted back at the club’s Training Centre and Ibrox Stadium this week, as the Mexican took in the club’s Champions League clash with Liverpool.

The reported £1.5m Pedro Caixinha signing had an ill-fated stint with the Gers between 2017 and 2020 but his appearance back in Glasgow is evidence that once you get bit by the Rangers bug, it never leaves you.

The 34-year-old was back in Glasgow visiting friends and uploaded a video to Twitter of the Ibrox club’s match with Liverpool, which unfortunately finished 7-1 to the visitors.

Now retired from the professional game, Rangers signed the striker from Mexican club Pumas as part of the Pedro Caixinha revolution but things never quite went to plan for Eduardo Herrera on the pitch.

Rangers invested heavily in the squad under the Portuguese manager but almost every signing failed to make an impact as the manager sold on much of the British talent in the squad for cut-price fees.

Eduardo Herrera struggled to make Rangers impact

Only playing in one full season with the Gers, Eduardo Herrera struggled to make an impact on the pitch and only scored two goals in his 24 appearances for the side.

Herrera even made his competitive Rangers debut in the 2-0 Europa League qualifying defeat to Progres Neiderkorn.

After one season and the appointment of Steven Gerrard, Herrera was sent on loan to Mexican side Santos Laguna before another loan stint with Nexaca before eventually being released by the club in January 2020.

Regularly uploading pictures of himself travelling to tourist spots all over the country, the big man did appear to enjoy his time in Glasgow and his return to Rangers stands as evidence of this.

Signed on the same day as famous Ibrox flop Carlos Pena, the relationship between the Gers and Herrera’s compatriot is in stark contrast to that of Eduardo.

A FIFA ruling recently went in Rangers’ favour after Pena took the Ibrox club to court over the cancellation of his contract.
