Rangers star Borna Barisic has claimed that he is “not happy” with his current situation at Ibrox as the Croatian international finds himself out of the side.

The 29-year-old left-back has had a difficult season in Light Blue and has struggled with form throughout the campaign.

As a result, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has began to opt for Calvin Bassey in the position as the ex-NK Osijek captain’s Ibrox career somewhat nosedives.

It’s been something of a drop-off from a player once linked with Napoli and AS Roma in Serie A and with a £22m move to Tottenham Hotspur [90 min].

Damaged in the 3-0 defeat at Celtic Park, Borna has looked shaky and unconvincing ever since and has struggled to dislodge Calvin on that side of the pitch.

However, there have been minutes for the left-back such is the need for rotation amid a heavy schedule.

Speaking after a call-up to the Croatian national side ahead of friendlies with Slovenia and Bulgaria, Borna Barisic claims he’s “not happy” with his current situation but that “it’s not a drama”.

“As far as Rangers goes, I’m still playing plenty of minutes because we are playing every three or four days at the moment,” said Borna Barisic [Scottish Sun].

“I haven’t played in a few games and I’m not happy about that, but it’s not a drama.

“It’s been a fairytale for me at Rangers and some things have changed now. But it’s nothing terrible.”

Borna was also speaking about what formation he prefers as he discusses his best role on the field of play.

Under Steven Gerrard Rangers near-universally played with a flat back four but under van Bronckhorst have experimented in game by changing to a back three/five.

For Barisic, it’s the latter he prefers as he looks forward to challenging with Croatia at Qatar 2022.

“Throughout my career, I have played more often in a four-man defence, although I have also played wide with three at the back,” said Borna.

“I have to be honest and say I prefer the second option.

“You have more freedom to move forward and it suits me. The wingback can get up and down the sides and I would be ready to cover that position.

“I can’t wait to go to Qatar and play these games. It will be a good test for us and it will be good to try out different formations over there.”

Meanwhile, Rangers fans are being left behind as infighting threatens to mar the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
