Rangers star Jermain Defoe in “56 pending” title call as battle drum sounds

Rangers star Jermain Defoe is over the moon to be at Ibrox for at least one more season and has sounded the “56 pending” battle drum ahead of the new campaign.

The legendary England forward might be 38 but he still has plenty to offer as he signed a new one-year player and coaching role with Steven Gerrard’s side.

If things go to plan this may well be a huge opportunity for Defoe to begin his pathway into coaching and it’s clear that the striker has been well and truly bitten by the Rangers bug.

Taking to Instagram – and looking as fresh as ever – JD supped a coffee and mused about the big things to come this season.

The striker clearly has his focus set on making a success of things at Rangers in the twilight of his career and these comments will be music to the ears of Gers supporters.

Defoe is the consummate professional and a genuinely inspirational character who remains one of the club’s most experienced and influential heads behind the scenes.

Not only that, but his goal record since joining Rangers is pretty damn good with Mr Defoe averaging an impressive goal every 99 minutes at Ibrox.

That’s 32 in 72 appearances to be precise; a tremendous return given the fact he is routinely used from the bench.

When you consider that the former Spurs, Pompey and Sunderland forward has also laid on ten assists since joining, that’s a direct goal involvement every 75 minutes going by data available on Transfermarkt.

If the striker’s impressive goal return since joining wasn’t enough to get you buzzing about his involvement next season, here’s what Defoe had to say when he signed his new deal.

“It is well-documented how much I love the club and the relationship I have with the fans, the players and the staff at the club,” said Jermain [Rangers].

“So to get the deal over the line, I am just delighted. It is something I wanted to happen, even before the season finished, especially the way we finished the season with winning the league.

“It was the perfect time to be at the football club and it was so special, so to sign another contract as a player/coach, and to still be a part of it, it is an amazing feeling for me and my family.

“It is something different and it is something new for me, and first of all, I want to thank the board, Ross [Wilson] and the manager and all the staff that have made this happen.

“It is an unbelievable opportunity for me and it just shows the appreciation I get from everyone at the football club which is the best feeling in the world more than anything else, and I can imagine once I get started, hopefully I will just flow into it and everything will happen quite naturally.”

If that wasn’t enough, Ibrox fans went crazy on social media for the striker’s emotional tweet regarding the “British institution” that is the Rangers Football Club.
