Rangers youngster Josh McPake has been spotted going through his pre-season paces with fellow Ibrox kid Leon King as speculation persists surrounding his future.

The 20-year-old attacker enjoyed a troubled season out on loan last year amid stints with Morecambe and Tranmere Rovers where he struggled to properly make an impression.

There where then reports recently regarding a potential exit – with Paul Hartley and Hartlepool United said to be interested – amid accusations of attitude problems and the suggestion the Gers could rip up McPake’s contract.

That’s despite the fact the kid signed a three-year deal only last season [Rangers].

But the youngster has shown a fine attitude as he joined fellow Rangers talent Leon King in being put through his pre-season paces as he looks to prove himself at Ibrox.

Signing that contract proves that Rangers do have substantial belief in McPake’s abilities and as things stand he’s set to return to Ibrox after the end of season break.

Josh McPake will be hoping to impress Rangers boss van Bronckhorst

The youngster may well yet get the chance to prove himself in front of manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst for the first time and Josh McPake is doing his chances to harm by getting the work in early.

Leon King too has already made an impression on the Rangers manager and the 18-year-old will do his chances of breaking into the first team no harm by putting the hard yards in.

Rangers manager van Bronckhorst used Leon King extensively after the Scottish Premiership split, playing him in four of the five matches towards the end of the season.

In total the defender has played eight matches for Rangers whilst Josh McPake has made one appearance for the club, in the Europa League qualifier v St Joseph’s in 2019.

McPake has also had loan spells out of the club at Dundee, Greenock Morton and Harrogate Town.

Meanwhile, one key Rangers player has been linked to a Premier League outfit as they look to plug a £30m gap in their side.
