Rangers star Fashion Sakala has gifted the Zambian President a signed Rangers jersey and scarf with the African leader in Glasgow for COP26.
The Climate Change Conference has seen world leaders from around the globe congregate on Glasgow, which is also the home of Rangers FC.
Sakala, 24, was invited by Zambia president Hakainde Hichilema following his goalscoring exploits at the weekend with Rangers.
Hichilema had previously praised the striker for his “special welcome” to Scotland following Sakala’s weekend hattrick in the 6-1 win over Motherwell.
Fashion was clearly delighted to meet the nation’s President and thanked him with a signed Rangers jersey and a glowing message on Twitter.
“God bless,” tweeted Fashion.
“Great honour to be invited by the President of our country Zambia.
“Saying ‘thank you’ is not enough for me to express how grateful I am for your invitation to meet you Mr President.
“FS10 Dreams don’t die. Read: Hebrews 13:7.
“Thank you Mr President I’m humbled.”
Rangers star Fashion Sakala “humbled” by meeting with Zambian president
Rangers fans have taken to Fashion Sakala very quickly and there are real hopes the player can kick on and leave a real imprint on the Scottish game.
The player’s infectious personality and positive approach shines through in his game and Sakala’s post-match interview following the weekend’s win over Motherwell had fans buzzing.
“First of all I’d like to thank God for my first career hat-trick,” Sakala told Sky Sports.
“I really appreciate the group of players I have here in the squad and the great staff that I have. They have been very supportive and they make things look very easy for me.
“That’s the most important thing for me. I think I’m getting there. I just have to keep working extra hard and being with the group, I believe there’s more to come.
“I have to keep believing, working extra hard, and staying positive and motivated every day.
“Something I have seen at this club is we all have the same mentality of winning, which is very good and I’m very happy about that.
“In the past three or four games we’ve come from behind, but it would be important for us to score first. We need to stop conceding first, which is something the gaffer already talked about.
“It [the match ball] is safe! I’m just waiting for the guys to sign it and I’ll sleep with it today!”
Signed in the summer on a pre-contract following the expiration of his deal at Belgian side KV Oostende, Rangers fans are delighted the striker has begun to find his feet.
So much so that they literally cannot get the forward’s catchy chant out of their head!
