Rangers have been criticised by former captain Barry Ferguson for missing out on nephew Lewis before his switch from Aberdeen to Bologna.
According to an excerpt in the Daily Record, Ferguson claims that the midfielder moved from Pittodrie to Italy for a fee of £2m in the summer.

Surprised that Rangers weren’t in the running when it came to the player, ex-Rangers skipper Barry claims Lewis Ferguson would’ve been an “ideal” Ibrox signing.
But now the former Gers midfielder is claiming that, such has been the success of Lewis Ferguson in Italy, that Rangers would do well to afford him.
“For £2m it wasn’t even a gamble,” writes Ferguson.
“On one hand, I was shocked that Rangers didn’t show any interest whatsoever in him. But, on the other, I wasn’t even remotely surprised. If that makes any sense.
“Rangers have always looked on their doorstep for the best young talent. From the likes of Ryan Jack way back to the days of Neil McCann – bringing in the best emerging Scottish talent is important for the club’s identity. Lewis fitted that bill perfectly but Rangers missed a trick with him as well as one or two others.
He would have been ideal for them. I’m not saying he would have been a certain starter but just being around guys like Jack, Steve Davis and Scott Arfield would have brought him on leaps and bounds.
“But Bologna saw something in him that Rangers didn’t and now, if he continues the form he was showing before the World Cup, my old club couldn’t even think about affording him.
“It’s a shame but it’s also a sign that things are far from right on the recruitment side of things.”
Rangers opt against Lewis Ferguson move
The comments come after Ross Wilson was forced to defend the club’s signing policy after a downturn in domestic form this season.
Rangers were also humbled in the Champions League with plenty of Ibrox supporters believing the club was not properly invested in during the summer.
With perennial crock John Souttar sidelined almost from the moment he signed, Wilson defended his record and claimed that Rangers “need Scottish players”.
Would Lewis Ferguson therefore not have been a sensible move with the club’s midfield in dire need of investment?
Meanwhile, Rangers face a painful £4m devaluation of one of their key players.
