The Scottish Sun reports that Ross Wilson has agreed to join Rangers as the club’s new Director of Football.

The 35-year-old previously turned down the opportunity to come to Ibrox in 2017, instead deciding to stay with Premier League club Southampton [BBC Sport].

Mark Allen was appointed instead and went on to help usher in improvements to the football department.

Yet, after he announced his sudden departure last month, the chase for Wilson was reignited, with Steven Gerrard playing a part in the recruitment process [Daily Record].

Rangers reportedly secure Wilson as new DoF

Wilson has previous experience working at Falkirk, Watford and Huddersfield Town, and comes with a good reputation.

A graduate of the University of Strathclyde, it seems he now believes it’s time to head back to Glasgow, to help Rangers kick on and return to the summit of the Scottish game.

The report claims that the Rangers board believes his appointment is a ‘massive coup’ and that he will ‘make changes behind the scenes, bringing in his own men to work alongside him.’

An official announcement is expected from the club tomorrow [Monday].

The fact that Wilson turned down the role two years ago, but is now willing to leave an established Premier League side to come to Rangers, just shows how far the club has come on in recent times.

Let’s hope this is an appointment which will usher in success, with silverware the main priority on the pitch.

When rumours previously suggested a deal was close, links to Wilson were met with approval from fans.
