Rangers are “pushing” to secure the signing of Romanian playmaker and FCSB captain Darius Olaru in the summer, according to reports in Romania.

According to Pro Sport, Rangers have sent scouts to Romania as they take a step closer to the deal with the report claiming that the interest is no longer “market gossip”.

It is said that Darius Olaru is viewed as a “box-to-box” option by Rangers with the club to make a final decision on any interest after watching the 24-year-old in the coming weeks.

Pro Sport claim that any switch will be managed by Romanian agent Gigi Becali with FCSB looking for between €6m-€8m (£5.3m-£7m) with Rangers only willing to deal on the lower end of the scale.

Rangers to step up Darius Olaru interest?

Becali has previously claimed that the player could be moved on in the summer but stopped short of mentioning Rangers as he talked about a potential January exit.

“We proposed it [a transfer exit this January],” said Becali [DigiSport].

“You know what they say, never say never, but there is little chance of him leaving this winter, given that FCSB will soon be in contention.

“FCSB is asking a lot for Olaru. There are several teams who have followed him, who want him, but in the winter they hardly pay large sums of money.

“Probably in the summer it will be possible to transfer him, if everything goes well.”

The reports comes amid much speculation surrounding Darius Olaru, who was once again linked to Rangers in the winter window.

The player himself has also spoken in the past about the exit links and insists he’s focused on life in Romania.

“I don’t know, I don’t know anything, I just know that in about 10-11 days we have a match with Hermannstadt and I’m not thinking [about an exit],” said Olaru.

“I don’t know who it will be [the next player to leave FCSB], I think there are a lot of us good players, with quality, and I hope that more of us will take the step abroad.”

Meanwhile, Rangers have a quality option in Kemar Roofe, but let’s hope he stays fit.
