Rangers performance against Hamburg was fine, over 20 players played and it was a comfortable win but, it was the appearance of Tom Lawrence that drew the biggest applause of the day.

It wasn’t just the crowd that were appreciative either as the Welshman returned to action after over 10 months out with various injuries.

Nicolas Raskin took to Instagram to show his love for one of Rangers marquee signings from last summer as Tom Lawrence looks to start his career in Scotland all over again.

Rangers will have a new signing in Tom Lawrence

The 29-year old might only have been fit for a couple of months last season but his quality was clear to see.

Able to play in midfield as a number eight or in any of the attacking positions behind a striker, he gives Michael Beale another versatile option.

Against Hibs at Easter Road, we saw how he will make runs past the striker to get on the end of crosses, against PSV Eindhoven, we saw how he can be more disciplined as well as his long-range shooting ability.

As the former Derby captain, Rangers will also have another leader on the pitch in Tom Lawrence.

A player who, like Nicolas Raskin, isn’t just about technical ability and with a determination to go forward.

He has a controlled aggression to his game that is essential to be a success for a club that dominates possession and is every other team’s cup final.

To make things even better, the Rangers squad has now been upgraded and Tom Lawrence will be linking up with Raskin, Todd Cantwell, Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers, as well as the fit again Kemar Roofe.

It might take him a while to get fully up to speed but, as Raskin said, “He’s back,” and Rangers are only stronger for his return.
