Rangers have put to bed speculation over a new senior player deal as Ianis Hagi puts to pen to paper on a new contract at Ibrox.

Gers manager Michael Beale had everyone second guessing who might be the next to sign a new contract by claiming a senior star was set to pen a new deal.

This was after news broke regarding a new contract for Leon King, which has also been officially confirmed by the club in the last few days.

Now, the club have officially put to bed speculation regarding who the party might be as Ianis Hagi officially signs a new deal amid a lengthy injury lay-off.

But whilst the contract for teenage centre-back Leon King is one which makes perfect sense and protects the club’s interests with the 18-year-old, the decision to hand Ianis Hagi a new deal is tinged with risk.

Rangers hand new contract to Ianis Hagi

Rangers star Hagi might only be 24-years-old but has been out of action for the last year due to a cruciate ligament injury sustained in a Scottish Cup victory over Stirling Albion.

To date, the midfielder is yet to return to the pitch for Rangers and it will be 2023 before the club’s fans see Ianis Hagi back in match day squads with the player only now returning to training.

Speaking after signing the contract, Ianis Hagi hopes to put his injury hell behind him with Rangers showing their faith and banking on a triumphant return to action for the Romanian.

“The history that this club has pushes you every single day on the pitch and off the pitch to be a better player and a better person,” said Hagi [Rangers].

“I like to think I have left something behind me and I have given really good memories to the fans but I still feel like I haven’t done everything that I want. I still have a lot of things to show and give to this amazing group of people in Rangers as well as the fans, I just can’t wait until I’m back.”

Whilst Rangers haven’t officially given details of the contract, reports in Romania claim the Ianis Hagi deal is set to last until the summer of 2026.

Meanwhile, another major Rangers injury blow has been softened by a change of approach at Ibrox.
