Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has opened up on what drives him every day at Ibrox, as quoted by the Scottish Herald.

He’s well aware of just how important this year’s efforts in the competition are, though. Filled with ambition, he wants to emulate the greats that have gone before him by earning the club silverware.

“The first is always the hardest because of all that expectation and pressure,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Scottish Herald. “I do think getting to this final is very important and if and when we do then we need to try and go all the way.”

“There are two ways of looking at that pressure, you feel it on your shoulders every day and worry about it or you use as a drive, an inspiration and an opportunity to go and join the people that have built the club. That’s what drives me on every day.

“I look at all the famous names, the top ex-players, the fantastic managers that have gone before and what drives me getting out of bed and coming into this place…is the chance to join them and add to the wonderful history the club has.”

Verdict

This is yet more evidence that Gerrard really understands what it means to have the honour of being Rangers boss.

His revolution at Ibrox hasn’t been about getting the Gers back to a respectable level, it’s about bringing back the glory days.

Victory against managerless Hearts at Hampden will leave him just an Old Firm win away from major silverware and securing that trophy would fill the squad with belief ahead of the rest of the campaign.

It’s a huge period for this team in the build-up to Christmas, and the boss is desperate to deliver.
