22-year-old Gers loanee, Greg Docherty, spoke to the Shropshire Star, after featuring twice for Shrewsbury Town over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The matches fixtures offered a chance to secure the club’s League One status for another year.
However, things didn’t quite go to plan.

The Shrews lost 2-1 at promotion-chasing Barnsley on Friday, before succumbing 3-2 to Oxford United on Monday.
The second defeat will be particularly hard to take. Docherty’s goal in the 40th minute put the Shrews 2-1 up and had things stayed that way they would have been safe, courtesy of a much stronger goal difference than the teams around them.

Instead, despite the Oxford being down to ten men, Northern Ireland international Gavin Whyte’s hattrick saw them leave New Meadow with all three points.
“It was quiet but a few truths were spoke,” Docherty told the Shropshire Star of the atmosphere in the home changing room after the game.
“It needed to be done. We aired (opinions) a little bit but it’s almost like speechless because everyone knows where it went wrong. This was a huge opportunity and we’ve let ourselves down massively.

“We need to win as a team. If I can contribute great but ultimately it wasn’t enough and we shot ourselves in the foot.
“Everybody knows that. Everyone’s extremely disappointed, particularly for the fans. Bank Holiday, there was a very good feelgood factor.”
The Shrews have two more chances to secure survival. A trip to Coventry on Sunday is followed by a clash with Walsall on the final day.
