Rangers links to ES Setif midfielder Ahmed Kendouci have resurfaced in the Scottish sports press – despite the club’s insistence the Gers are not interested in the player.

The Algerian international, 23, has been on impressive form in his home country’s top tier this season and according to the latest reports it’s attracting plenty of attention in the North African country.

According to quotes in the Daily Record, Mohamed Benelhadj, who is the chairman of divisional rivals and Algerian Ligue 1 league leaders Belouizdad, has confirmed his side’s interest in the player.

More than that, Benelhadj is also claiming that there isn’t a better player than Rangers-linked Ahmed Kendouci in the entire division.

“Kendouci is a player who interests us a lot,” said Benelhadj.

“He is currently the best player in the league. At the CRB, we want the best.”

As well as use Benelhadj’s quotes, the report also refers to apparent Rangers interest in Kendouci and claims that the Ibrox side are battling clubs across Europe including an unnamed Croatian outfit in the hunt for the player.

Quoting an apparent exclusive by Football Scotland, the report makes mention of Rangers seemingly seeking out an initial six-month loan deal whilst claiming Kendouci has “emerged as a target” at Ibrox.

However, they do not make mention of claims from within Rangers, communicated to fan media, that suggest there is nothing is the link to Kendouci.

Heart & Hand claimed on social media that – at least according to Rangers – there is “nothing in” the links to the Algerian.

It’s all a tad confusing but whilst the links to Ahmed Kendouci have resurfaced, it appears clear there has been nothing in the way of any development around any potential Rangers interest.

The club have refuted the suggestion for a reason and at the very least, them doing so would suggest the Gers will not be securing a deal for the player in the near future.

Meanwhile, Rangers edged out Ross County courtesy of a John Lundstram strike.
