Rangers form since pre-season started does not make for pretty reading for Michael Beale and it is little wonder that there is an element of the support looking for change.

A club with a proud history of supporting its bosses shouldn’t be considering their third manager since 2021, and yet, it’s a very real possibility.

The warning signs have been there for Rangers and Michael Beale has to find the right combinations and fast, with former skipper Barry Ferguson having to make a staunch defence on the Go Radio Football Show.

Rangers boss Michael Beale backed to have more time

A draw with Livingston, a win over a third tier German side, followed by losses to Newcastle and Olympiakos saw early questions asked, a draw with Hoffenheim doing little to mask the issues we had seen too.

Things haven’t improved with competitive football either.

A nervy 3-2 aggregate win over Servette saw a rare good start turn into an unnecessary slog.

An encouraging 2-2 draw with PSV at Ibrox looked like a corner was turning but this week has been one that Michael Beale has had a nightmare as Rangers manager but, Ferguson believes that he should still be given time.

When criticised by a fan for backing Beale and for being a cheerleader, the former Gers skipper said:

“Listen, you’re four games into a new season and you’re wanting the manager out?

“I totally disagree with you.

“I’m allowed my opinion, how am I a cheerleader for him?

“You’re talking absolute nonsense, mate.”

Two league defeats in four games with a set of fixture that should have seen full points is the biggest cause for concern though and Barry Ferguson has a tough fight on his hands to persuade fans that Beale is the right man for the job.

His loyalty has to be admired, but sometimes, trying to defend the indefensible is an argument best ignored.
