Rangers have mentality monster in Philippe Clement

When Rangers appointed Philippe Clement, a quick look at his CV suggested we were getting a manager who knew how to win.

At Hampden, against Hearts, he was clearly setting the standard in that, at 3-1 up, he was still berating players for not being flat out and pressing opponents.

More than that Rangers have secured a boss in Philippe Clement who is proactive and will make decisions to change games rather than waiting, with Alan Hutton impressed with his half-time call, as told to Viaplay Sports.

Rangers have proper manager in Philippe Clement

The Gers gaffer has set his stall out early doors in that every game is must win, every minute must be played with the same intensity and every possession is a chance to attack, players like John Lundstram speaking out about the changes he has already made.

When asked by Emma Dodds about Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s reaction to making the Viaplay Cup final, he said:

“What I do like about him is that he’s obviously not scared to make the big decisions.

“Look at Todd Cantwell who’s a big player for Rangers in what he does and what he brings, but he felt he needed to make a change.

“And it was the right change, Scott Wright comes on and has a massive impact on the game.”

Todd Cantwell wasn’t having a bad game.

He had been involved in several positive moments in the first-half and nearly got on the scoresheet himself.

It was Cantwell that looked one of our most likely players to do something.

However, he had also been given a cheap yellow card by Nick Walsh and, given Cantwell’s style of play, there was a risk of him being given a second.

With Rangers still being held 0-0, Philippe Clement made the right call to bring off the playmaker, even if it is one that could have backfired and been scrutinised had they lost.

Hutton is right, in recent seasons, we have seen too many managers who were afraid to change things or to drop “big name” players, under Clement, it’s all about the team.
