Rangers and the Rangers Charity Foundation are “delighted” that they’ve become the first football club and club charity in the UK to receive the Ministry of Defence “Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award”.

The Ibrox club are famed for their support of the country’s armed forces and regularly host armed forces day and special Remembrance Sunday commemorations

The club also offer a 20% discount to soldiers and army personnel on their Tickets for Troops scheme.

Rangers Managing Director, Stewart Robertson, was joined by Club legends Derek Johnstone, Mark Hateley and Rangers Charity Foundation Director, Connal Cochrane, at Ibrox following the Gold Award announcement.

Needless to say, club figures were delighted with the award.

“Achieving the Gold Award is a wonderful recognition for both the Club and Foundation and I would like to pay tribute to everyone within Rangers, as well as our supporters, who have contributed to this important work over many years,” said managing director Stewart Robertson [Rangers Charity Foundation].

“We are committed to doing whatever we can to support those who serve and promote an armed forces-friendly environment. I know that this special accolade will inspire us to advocate on behalf of the MOD’s Employers’ Recognition Scheme further.

“Congratulations to all the organisations receiving an award in 2019.”

Club manager, Steven Gerrard, added: “This is proud moment for everyone at the Club and Foundation, who I know work hard to support serving Armed Forces personnel and veterans each season.

“I hope that the fans will join us all in celebrating this special award – it’s well deserved!”

The award will delight Rangers fans who pride themselves on a relationship with the armed forces and the soldiers who represent it.

Only recently, the club also allowed a bucket collection outside Ibrox for Glasgow’s last surviving British Legion.

Rangers supporters were also praised by veteran’s charity Erskine for raising close to a £1m for the charity.

Appeal founder Tom Clark described himself as being “proud” to be part of the Rangers family that has raised £856,000 for the charity over the last 12 years.

The club will continue to support the country’s soldiers and armed forces this way and there’s little doubt the award from the Ministry of Defence is well deserved.
