Rangers defender Filip Helander has been linked with a return to Malmo and they’re hardly distancing themselves from signing him.
The Gers have a host of players coming to the end of their contracts this summer.
Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent are the high-profile free agents whilst Allan McGregor and Steven Davis are also free to go as things stand.
One of the more curious situations surrounds defender Filip Helander.
The Swede was snapped up for £3.5million back in 2019 as Rangers raided Italian side Bologna.
Helander has largely played well when available but that has been the big problem – injuries.
Helander has only managed 36 league appearances for Rangers in almost four years and hasn’t played at all this season.
Rangers need to start getting ruthless, and that means allowing players like Helander to leave if they aren’t going to be available for selection.

Malmo coy on Filip Helander return
We think Helander will end up leaving for free and a return to Sweden could be on the cards.
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet claimed in January that Malmo would like to re-sign Helander when his Rangers deal ends.
Helander was born in Malmo and came up through the club’s ranks before making 94 first-team appearances.
The 29-year-old needs to get his career back on track and a return to his hometown club could be perfect.
Malmo sporting director Daniel Andersson has now been asked about signing Helander.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen over in Sweden, Andersson noted that Helander is ‘still quite young’ and that Malmo would see what his situation is this summer.
Andersson was coy on a move but didn’t exactly rule it out as Helander heads towards the final stages of his Rangers career.
“We have had little contact during these years. We’ll see how the situation is. He is still quite young,” said Andersson. “Like I said, we’ll see. We keep in touch with all interesting old MFF members,” he added.
