Rangers fans are delighted with Douglas Park after the interim chairman said the club would pay for an independent investigation into SPFL conduct [Rangers.co.uk].
The move comes amid a lengthy feud between the Gers and the governing body, focused around the April resolution to end the Scottish Championship, League One and League Two seasons early amid the global health crisis.
Rangers circulated a dossier of evidence to all other 41 member clubs on Thursday ahead of an EGM vote on the need for an independent investigation into SPFL conduct.
The governing body publicly dismissed the dossier and are counselling clubs against voting for an investigation partly due to how much it would cost.
Park’s latest comments mean finances shouldn’t be a factor in the vote, though.
“Cost should never be a barrier to proper governance,” he told Rangers.co.uk.
“If our resolution is passed on Tuesday we will be willing to fund the costs of an Independent Investigation covering the scope outlined in our resolution.”
It’s an almighty gesture from the Gers, showing their determination to see this through to a conclusion.
Many clubs are currently in uncertain financial positions, with the need for prize money a driving factor behind the April vote to end the three league campaigns.
Now that Rangers say they are prepared to foot the bill, though, surely clubs will be more inclined to vote for their resolution so that a thorough review can be conducted.
