Rangers fans react to Youth Cup Final victory

Last night saw yet more success for the blossoming Rangers youth department.
The Gers U18s defeated their Old Firm rivals 3-2 in the final of the Scottish Youth Cup at Hampden.

It was a lightning fast start from David McCallum’s side, too.
Ciaran Dickson’s composed finish from the edge of the area put Rangers 1-0 up after just five minutes. Then, just a minute later, it was two.
The impressive Dapo Mebude latched onto a knockdown to double the advantage.

Things were to become more complicated after the break, though.
Celtic started the second period as Rangers had the first, scoring after 47 and 48 minutes. With early momentum lost, it would have been easy to capitulate at that stage.
Yet, the young Gers simply came again.
There was little surprise about who got the winner, either.
Nathan Young-Coombes starred out in Qatar in February, as Rangers became the first British club to win the Alkass Cup.
It was also he who scored the goal against Aberdeen that secured the club’s place in last night’s final.
He’s developed a knack of stepping up when it matters, and in the 66th minute, he latched onto a perfectly weighted cross to plant home the winner and seal the trophy.

In the end, it wasn’t as comfortable as it could have been. However, this extremely talented group dug deep to secure Rangers’ first Youth Cup win in five years.
With the match broadcast live on TV, the players were given plenty of exposure and Bears liked what they saw.
Here’s a selection of reactions to the landmark victory:
