Rangers fans react as Jermain Defoe signs Ibrox contract

Rangers fans are rejoicing after the club announced that Jermain Defoe has signed a pre-contract agreement which will see him make a permanent switch to Ibrox in the summer.

The 37-year-old striker has six months remaining on his loan deal and on his Bournemouth contract, but this arrangement ensures he’ll be playing in Glasgow until the end of the 2020/21 season.

“I’m just delighted, to be honest,” Defoe told Rangers.co.uk. “When I first signed, as I’ve said many times, it was an easy decision because I have always known about the size of this football club and the history and the great players that have played for this club, so I think for it to get all sorted and for me to secure my future here for another year is really special.”

“I’m delighted, my family are happy and to have an opportunity to play for this football club is special for me.”

It’s great news that the Gers have managed to tie down such a vastly experienced operator.

Despite his age, over the past year, he’s demonstrated time and time again, that his movement and finishing are still razor-sharp.

He has 24 goals in total in Light Blue and 16 for the season, including hat-tricks against Hibernian and St Mirren.

He proved the perfect foil for Morelos across the first half of the campaign, and so far in 2020, in the Colombian’s absence, he’s stepped up to the plate, notching two in two.

His goalscoring exploits and the class with which he conducts himself both on and off the field has made him a huge hit with the Ibrox faithful, and many supporters were delighted at the announcement.
