As Rangers announced a special Weekend of Legends friendly match as part of the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations, the response of some of our rivals has been a joy to behold.

The Gers are preparing to welcome some of the biggest football legends on planet Earth to take part in a special friendly match against a Gers XI at Ibrox this coming March. All the details HERE.

The whole thing is about celebrating Rangers’ 150th year anniversary and is part of a series of special events which will commemorate 15 decades of the Bears.

But if you think that Celtic or Aberdeen fans Sevcoing into the Twitter void over Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos and Paul Gascoigne coming to Ibrox has been funny, Rangers are only just getting started.

Rival fans in meltdown over Rangers 150th anniversary friendly

There’s a beautiful irony that comes with that type of rival supporter who obsesses over Rangers post-2012 and posts it all over the internet like anyone cares.

They genuinely think that they’re doing society a service; that football and the wider community must know that Rangers died and no-longer exist, the holding company now in charge the true identity of the football club.

If you listen closely, you’ll hear an angry Celtic fan typing furiously into his phone that Luis Figo must know that Rangers didn’t pay the face painter.

But what these types don’t understand is that they are providing endless, genuinely hilarious content for everyone else to enjoy year on year, positive Rangers result after positive Rangers result.

Stuck in an endless loop of patter about Mike Ashley or the hedge at Brechin, fans like this have been too busy focusing so much on Rangers’ past that the club’s future has crept up on them.

Even the Parkhead side themselves struggle to bring themselves to call the “Glasgow Derby” – historically the name of the match between Rangers and Queen’s Park – the Old Firm.

Rangers prepare for year of celebrations ahead of 150th anniversary

As Rangers ramp up their celebrations ahead of the 150th anniversary, prepare to see every single social media post hijacked by angry Sevcoists, every mention of 150 years obsessively torn apart, every raging Celtic da coming out of the woodwork by cover of dodgy twitter profile.

For those demented by Rangers’ rise from the ashes of 2012, 2022 promises to be a year when the letters s, e, v, c, and o are worn out on their keyboards.

But for Rangers fans, it will see the arrival of some of global football’s biggest stars past and present, a range of events and tributes, the birth of a new club museum and – hopefully – a 56th league title.

Not a bad way to celebrate 150 years as a Scottish and British footballing institution and a global force in the beautiful game.

Meanwhile, John Swinney has made a startling admission regarding crowds ahead of the upcoming Old Firm derby.
