Rangers fans disappointed by League Cup quarter-final draw

Rangers booked their spot in the Quarter-Finals of the Scottish League Cup on Sunday afternoon, with a 3-0 win away at East Fife.

Conditions played their part in an attritional affair, with the Gers holding only a one-goal advantage at half-time.

However, despite the manager rotating his squad for this one, Rangers’ extra quality shone through in the end.

Joe Aribo impressed in midfield and grabbed a late goal, while Jermain Defoe looked razor-sharp up front and earned his Man of the Match award.

Despite Aberdeen vs Dundee going to extra time, the draw for the last eight was held shortly after the conclusion of the Gers game.

The possible opponents for the Gers were: Celtic, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Livingston, Hibernian, Partick Thistle and Hearts.

Seven Premiership sides, then, with just the Jags flying the flag for the rest of the SPFL, after Sam Cosgrove’s extra-time winner knocked out Dundee.

In the end, the Gers drew Livingston away from home, with the tie set to be played midweek, between the 24th and 26th September.

Purely in terms of quality of opposition, this isn’t a bad draw. Livi have one of the lowest budgets in the top flight and after the departures of several key players over the summer, look less of a force than they were last term.

However, they do play on an artificial surface, which, as we know, can be something of a leveller.

The Gers lost 1-0 at the Tony Macaroni last September, and perhaps with memories of that result in their heads, plenty of Bears expressed their annoyance with the outcome of the draw.
