Rangers fans have leapt to the defence of summer signing Juninho Bacuna amid a spate of criticism from fellow supporters who’ve “scapegoated” the player following the draw with Hearts.

The Curacao international was introduced for Joe Aribo in the second half of the eventual 1-1 draw with the Ibrox side 1-0 up in the match.

But the player’s involvement couldn’t produce that all-important second goal and the Gers were eventually punished for wasting a host of chances at Ibrox.

The result will go down as an opportunity missed and two points dropped and there has been plenty of frustration in the aftermath of the game.

But whilst perhaps the fault lies with the Ibrox side’s misfiring strikers – Alfredo Morelos in particular – Bacuna has been somewhat scapegoated by some for his lack of telling involvement in the game.

That’s despite twice sliding in the Ibrox forwards who were wasteful when presented with the opportunities by the ex-Huddersfield man.

A summer signing who is yet to get enough minutes for the club to really be judged, some fans have pointed to the likes of John Lundstram as an example not to jump the gun.

The midfielder was resoundingly criticised for his start to life at Rangers but has bounced back to be an influential player who even scored the Ibrox side’s goal against the Jambos.

Taking to Twitter, fans have leapt to the defence of Juninho Bacuna and urged fellow supporters to get off the player’s back:

The midfielder was also at the centre of controversy after Robbie Neilson was sent off for remonstrating at the player following a clash with Stephen Kingsley.

In the post-match Neilson claimed he believed Bacuna should’ve been shown a red card as a result.

It was a disappointing result for Rangers who remain top of the Scottish Premiership with the man who made a mistake for the goal protected by Steven Gerrard.
