Sean Dyche – a managerial favourite amongst many Rangers fans to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst – is still on the market as Southampton move for Luton Town manager Nathan Jones.

The Saints are in the hunt for a new boss having sacked Austrian manager Ralph Hasenhuttl this week after four years in charge at St Mary’s.

Hasenhuttl himself has links to Rangers through Ross Wilson but there has been no official link between the former Southampton boss and the Ibrox side.

Whilst we have to stress that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is still in charge and appears to be backed by the Board, one manager who has been routinely mentioned by Rangers fans in Sean Dyche.

Southampton move elsewhere as some Rangers fans eye Sean Dyche

The ex-Burnley boss is out of work after leaving Turf Moor towards the end of last season and Rangers fans have previously mused about the former centre-back taking over should the Dutchman leave.

But after the sacking of Ralph Hasenhuttl, there might have been a few Rangers fans thinking Sean Dyche might be heading up a potential shortlist given Southampton’s relegation form.

TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan had also brought the discussion into the media by suggesting that the Englishman would be a sensible choice for the South Coast club.

But interestingly Luton Town have since announced that Southampton have made an official approach for their manager Nathan Jones.

The Welshman has been granted permission to speak to the Saints and it now appears Jones could be set to move on from his second spell with Luton, having first managed the club between 2016 and 2019 and then rejoining in 2020.

For the time being Giovanni van Bronckhorst remains the Rangers manager and for all intents and purposes appears to have the backing of the club.

But if things continue as they are then you can bet the noise around a change at Rangers will intensify and with that Sean Dyche is likely to continue being a name at the centre of the conversation.

Meanwhile, Rangers fan fury boiled over as the club’s fans were captured gutting a senior player after the defeat to St Johnstone.
