Rangers face near £5m bill as fans continue to call for Ibrox judgement

Rangers will need to pay close to £5m if the Ibrox Board decide to sack manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, according to a report.

The Dutch coach is on the verge of losing his job at Ibrox after overseeing a disastrous first half of the campaign which saw the club set unwanted Champions League records and slip behind Celtic in the title race.

Van Bronckhorst undoubtedly deserves credit for managing to guide the Gers to the Champions League Group Stages but there can be no justification for the club’s performances when they got there.

The club’s performance was the worst in Group Stage history.

Couple this with the club picking up two points from a possible nine against St Johnstone (L), Livingston (D) and St Mirren (D) in recent weeks and the writing appears to be on the wall.

That heavy defeat to Celtic at Parkhead – the second time during Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Ibrox tenure – is also looming over the manager’s time at Rangers.

But whilst the Ibrox pressure is fit to burst, with problems much deeper than just the insipid coaching performance of Van Bronckhorst, substantial costs could yet be on the horizon.

Rangers Board face substantial Giovanni van Bronckhorst compo fee

Rangers are paying the price for failing to appropriately strengthen after Champions League qualification but now they could be forced to splash out £4.6m to sack Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his team.

That’s according to the 4th Official, who told their official Patreon site that Van Bronckhorst will cost £3.6m to release whilst the rest of his staff total around £1m.

That means that after a stagnant summer where Rangers failed to strengthen despite it being clear they had to, the club could still be shelling out just to get rid of the management.

This is before you talk about getting a new team on board, or spending in January to strengthen the squad, or the impending squad turnover which is destined this summer.

The entire thing is a riot and the fact that Rangers have slept since lifting 55 could yet come back to bite them with the club on the verge of substantial payouts just to keep touch with Celtic.

Meanwhile, one highly-rated Euro coach has appeared to rule himself out of the Ibrox running.
